This is the ultimate escape pod. MOM is one tough boat. Designed, built and maintained as a work boat, she is no sissy. We intended on taking her offshore but found the waters of the Inside Passage challenging enough. Every detail of her is built with cruising in mind. No varnishing or bright work. Every aspect of MOM is based on simplicity and reliability. The hand rails around the spacious deck are waist high. No mamsy pamsy little cables a foot high. No hydraulic steering. MOM has a outside tiller and inside steering that will not break. In our experience everyone's' windlass breaks. Mom's windless is human powered. If you want a boat maintenance free, this is your boat. Fiberglass leaks, ferro cement cracks. Steel lasts. New in 2020 are the zinc anodes, PSS dripless shaft seal (PRO model), AGM house batteries, and bottom paint.

DESCRIPTION
This boat has traveled extensively up and down the Inside Passage since 2009. She is safe and comfortable. Stainless steel hand rails are waist high and keep you safe while walking around the wide decks. Baby bars keep you safe when hoisting the main sail. A deva seat in the back of the boat gives one a good view as well as comfort in the cock pit. She is twin keel, shallow draft. She has plied the waters and ice of Glacier Bay, been around Vancouver Island, out to Haida Gwaii and down as far south as Olympia. She is solid built and could go anywhere in the world. MOM will provide many more years of safe sailing to come. USCG documented.
She is built using the origami type building method that is stronger than traditional frame construction and provides a fairer hull. Made of abraded and primed steel, the hull thickness is 3/16" with decks and cabin 1/8". The hull was professionaly built by Evan Shaler. One of the best builders of this design, this is his 35th hull. All steel is coated inside and out with WASSER primer and tar. Zinc anodes new in 2020.

We have used Coastal Explorer mainly because of the RADAR chart overlay and AIS display.
Mobile PC w/WINDOWS 7 PRO has 500 GB SSD, 6 USB ports, 2 ethernet ports and 4 RS232 serial ports. Wireless keyboard and mouse.
Two Arganaut waterproof 15" screens one for outside and the other for inside steering. Computer and monitors run on 12VDC.
