Starting the New Year in San Blas, Nayarit for the Christmas bird count, we headed to Colombia soon after.
In Colombia we spent 2 months driving around in a Sprinter camper van collecting another 360 Lifers [birds we had not seen before].
Colombia has the highest number of bird species of anywhere in the world. 2000! Then home for more birding everyday where we live on Lake Chapala, Mexico.
In April we got up to Texas for the High Island bird migration. In between we got out into the Mexican countryside to look for birds.
The beautiful rainy season started in the middle of May. La Reservita, our Bird and Butterfly sanctuary, thrives in the rainy season.
In August we flew north to experience the Northwest Passage [NWP]. Meeting the ship in Greenland we sailed up that coast, across Baffin Bay to the NWP and all the way west to Russia then to Nome, Alaska.
Visiting my sister in Palmer, Alaska she encouraged us to drive up to Denali National Park. There we saw Denali on a perfectly clear day, new birds, moose in rut, bears and the Northern Lights.
From Alaska we flew to Utah to visit more family. Got lots of time with our Birding buddies there. Then back to Mexico.
Full circle we got back to San Blas for the Christmas Bird Count at the end of the year.
